January and February have been the best months for HostUS and its clients. In this blog post we will show you our comparisons with our old and new server hardware. We will also compare the network. This is our first blog post of the year so hope you enjoy it. This will also be the official report regarding the server move.
Old server and network.
In our old data center we had two 1Gbps dedicated connections to our server rack. This provided ample connection speeds to most countries. Our network consisted of nlayer, cogentco and other bandwidth providers. We were able to migrate most DDoS attacks under 2Gbps. This setup was ideal for our web hosting set up. However during non peak times sometimes the network would slow down due to our backups being synced to our remote servers. Our old hardware consisted of Intel Dual Xeon L5420's with 16 GB of RAM in a RAID10 setup. These servers severed up well but are getting well outdated.
New server and network.
In our new data center our new servers are Intel Xeon E3-1240V2's @ 3.5GHz with 32GB RAM, RAID 10 disks with a 128GB SSD cache. This has already showed a massive increase in performance for both our clients and us personally. We now have 10Gbps links to our racks and 1Gbps to each node, so there has never been a decrease in our traffic rate.
Overall the move went well and we know our clients enjoy the new hardware :)
